Greetings, once again! 👋🏽
I hope you are doing well and taking good care of yourself.
Thank you for reading another edition of The Reader’s Perspective newsletter.
I Wish I Knew This Earlier: Lessons on Love is a relatable book with 30+ lessons on love. It’s divided into 3 parts, one for any stage you are: dating, loving, or healing, based on the author’s experience. It’s the author’s first book, published in 2021.
Had I known, they say, is the brother of Mr. Late. It’s always better, and maybe even easier to have forehand information on certain things in life. Inasmuch as there is no one way to navigate a relationship, it always helps to have some tips. Drawing from her experiences, the author calls them “big sister advice.”
These are some of my best tips, by section:
Dating
- Date people who want the same things as you.
- Don’t betray yourself to find love.
- Not settling can be a lonely process.
- We don’t own people, we experience them.
- Uncomfortable conversations are often required for comfortable relationships.
Loving
- Love more than just potential.
- Struggle is not a rite of passage we must experience before happiness.
- Controlling your ego is an important part of a relationship.
- You are responsible for your own happiness.
- Don’t forget to celebrate your partner.
Healing
- Sometimes, you miss the routine.
- Beware of exes who want to stroke their ego.
- Implement boundaries during (and after) a breakup.
- Never compromise your character to teach somebody a lesson.
- Missing someone who wasn’t good for you doesn’t make you weak.
The book is a light easy read. I’m not a fan of self-help books but I absolutely enjoyed reading it and I know you will enjoy it and learn a thing or two.
